WRITING

Writing is one of the 4 areas explored in the World Scholar's Cup, and on this page, you learn the basics of WSC writing and how to ace it.

First up, let's look at the rules of WSC writing. Each team is given 10-15 minutes to look at 6 prompts in 6 areas, such as Literature, Art and Music, Science, History, Social Studies, and Special Area. Each member of the team needs to choose a different prompt to work on, and they are given 40-45 minutes to write individually. After that, there is a final 5 minutes to collaborate with teammates and check each other's work (or you can also wrap your paper up if you have not yet done so).

How WSC Writing is graded

There are 4 sections of writing scoring for WSC, and the total adds up to 60-100 points which will then be compared to other students' scores.

1. Clarity.

   - The paper needs to be easy to read and understand.

   - The paper needs to be correctly structured

   - Grammar, syntax, and spelling errors need to be minimised

   - The paper needs to answer the prompt clearly

2. Content

  - The ideas and facts presented needs to be relevant and thought-provoking

  - The conclusion needs to make sense and reflect the rest of the paper

  - The paper needs to have a certain link to the WSC subjects

3. Style

  - The paper's style needs to be eye-catching and engaging

  - The vocabulary needs to be diverse and vibrant

  - The paper needs to have an excited/uplifting tone

4. Originality

  - Unique perspective

  - Memorable voice and approach (be creative!!!)

  - Be compelling, and make sure the judge can remember your paper...that is, in a      good way and without the contents screaming in their head

This is about it. Good luck, scholar!
